Yves Mersch

Yves Mersch is a Member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank and Governor of the Central Bank of Luxembourg, a position he has held since the bank’s formation in 1998.
He has been described as ‘a key member’ of the ECB Governing Council and is regarded as relatively hawkish on interest rate policy.
He studied international law in Paris and is member of the Luxembourg bar. He is married and has two children.
Accomplishments
- Elected Co-Chair of the Financial Stability Board’s Regional Consultative Group for Europe (2011-2012)
- President of the Fondation de la Banque centrale du Luxembourg (BCL’s Foundation) which promotes research and higher education in the BCL’s fields of activity (2011-2012)
- Deputy Chair of the Governing Board of the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM) (2010-2012)
- Member of the Board of the Luxembourg School of Finance Foundation (FLSF) (2006-2012)
- President of the non-profit association, The Bridge Forum Dialogue a.s.b.l, founded in 2000 with the participation of the European Union institutions and bodies established in Luxembourg (2000-2012)
- Alternate Governor for Luxembourg on the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) (1998-2012)
